About Vitoria Dance Company

 

Vitoria Dance is comprised of a professional Christian contemporary dance company, Christian dance school and outreach program located in Plain City, Ohio. Vitoria was established as a place where people could come to receive the best quality classes, get well rounded training and serve the Lord with excellence through the arts. The name " Vitoria" means victory or to conquer. It is our goal to be victorious at what we do and conquer the arts so that we can bring all glory back to God.

 

The Company: Vitoria Dance Company is a professional contemporary Christian dance company that will start its first season in August 2008. The company will be made up of trainees, apprentices and company members 18 years and older. The dancers' daily schedule will include worship, technique class and rehearsals . The company will perform at theaters and churches in Ohio and nationally.

 

The School: Vitoria School of the Arts is a Christian based dance school that offers classes in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap,lyrical, hip-hop, boys classes and yoga to students 2- 102. In addition to classes there are movie nights, worship nights and game nights offered. Students ages 10 and older can participate in our youth ensemble.

 

 

What is Christian Dance?

 

Christian dance is known by several names praise dance, worship dance sacred dance or liturgical dance. There are several different forms of Christian dancing. One form is done during worship in a church environment. In some churches when a person feels moved by the spirit they express it through dancing. This type of Christian dance is done without a technical foundation it is simply an act of worship. The second form is done by a worship team composed of older teens to adults that have little or no technical training. Worship team members use arm movements sometimes incorporating simple movement to express a song, verse or message. The third form is what we do here at Vitoria and what professional Christian dance companies do. Dancers who have technical training in dancing use that training to glorify God. These dancers often perform at various venues to Christian music or portray a Christian message to touch the hearts of the audience or congregation.
